Construction Begins on 26 Sustainable Affordable Homes in Oxfordshire

Construction has officially begun on a new affordable housing development in North Oxfordshire, marking another step towards tackling local housing shortages while supporting the transition to more sustainable residential communities.

Housing provider Stonewater has partnered with Snowdon Homes to deliver 26 new properties at Deerfields Farm in Bodicote, transforming a previously developed site into much-needed affordable accommodation.

Delivering Affordable Housing for Local Communities

The development will provide 21 homes for social rent and five properties available through shared ownership.

The scheme includes two-, three- and four-bedroom houses, offering accommodation for households with different requirements.

With demand for affordable housing continuing across the UK, developments such as Deerfields Farm demonstrate how housing associations and private developers can collaborate to increase supply.

The project is being supported through Homes England’s Social and Affordable Homes Programme, highlighting the importance of public investment in unlocking residential development.

Sustainability at the Heart of Development

Environmental performance is a central feature of the scheme.

Every property will incorporate energy-efficient technologies, including air source heat pumps, solar panels and electric vehicle charging facilities.

These measures are intended to reduce household energy costs while supporting the wider housing sector’s transition towards low-carbon construction.

Residents will also benefit from landscaped green space, helping create an attractive and sustainable living environment.

Building for the Future

Stonewater’s wider development ambitions have received a significant boost through a £350 million funding allocation, supporting plans to deliver 2,348 affordable homes over the next decade.

For housing industry professionals, the Bodicote development demonstrates the potential of combining sustainable construction, brownfield regeneration and strategic funding partnerships.

As the sector faces increasing pressure to deliver affordable homes without compromising environmental standards, projects that integrate low-carbon technologies from the outset could provide an important model for future development.

The scheme reflects a growing emphasis on creating homes that are not only affordable to access but also economical to operate over the long term.
