Cabinet Member for Homes and Neighbourhoods (Birmingham CC)

Birmingham City Council – Cabinet Member for Homes and Neighbourhoods, Councillor Shabrana Hussain has been a councillor since 2016. She served on the Children and Families Overview and Scrutiny Committee during 2016 and 2017. In 2018 she was appointed Cabinet Advisor for Street Scene and in 2019 she became Cabinet Advisor for Walking and Cycling. In 2021 she was elected by her peers as Chair of Economy and Skills Overview and Scrutiny.

As the Cabinet Member for Homes and Neighbourhoods, she has political leadership responsibility for a number of areas including; council housing management services, private rented sector, tenant engagement in social housing and neighbourhood engagement to ensure integration at a local level.

Shabrana is committed to promoting Birmingham and dedicated to ensuring that there is continuous improvement to services for the citizens of Birmingham. She has a strong ethos of public service and seeking solutions through collaboration with partnerships, with an authentic and inclusive approach to leadership.

She has continued to volunteer with a local charity as walk and cycling lead and serves on the Board of Governors at a local secondary school. As well as this she organises local street litter picks.

She is currently the local authority representative on West Midlands Combined Authority Housing and Land Delivery Board and ARCH (Association of Retained Council Housing).
