Amanda Smith
Amanda is passionate about learning, co creation, community engagement and partnership working at all levels in order to improve outcomes and life chances, identifying and using multi solving opportunities to take action on the climate emergency.
Amanda has over 20 years’ experience in teaching, school leadership, adult training and organisational improvement. She is a highly qualified and experienced educator, with Qualified Teacher status and the National Professional Qualification for Head Teachers, and is a Specialist Leader of Education. Her expertise includes project management, strategy development, stakeholder consultation, design and development of high quality training materials, assessment of impact, action planning and provision of an environment to support learning and development of key skills.
Amanda is Head of Learning and Education at the Centre of Alternative Technology (CAT), leading a team working on the development and delivery of learning and educational programmes for a range of audiences. Joining CAT in 2018, Amanda set up a new Engagement team to offer high quality provision for participants of all ages. Since April 2020 Amanda has also led training and co-creative practice for the Zero Carbon Britain project, working with a range of stakeholders, with the aim to improve the capacity of councils, communities and organisations to turn climate emergency declarations into action and create systemic change in order to increase resilience to climate change.
Prior to joining CAT Amanda was a Head Teacher, and she also worked in an advisory capacity for her local education authority from 2003, working with schools and other organisations in challenging circumstances to enable them to develop effective action plans and bring about organisational change and improvement as a result.
