Mulberry Homes Eco-friendly Housing Developments

Luxury homebuilder Mulberry Homes is helping to protect local wildlife and enhance the environment at its Ravensden Park development in Bedfordshire and newly launched Whissendine development in Rutland, by installing a variety of eco-friendly features.

Ravensden Park is comprised of a stunning range of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes, set within a green country park environment and surrounded by more than 20 acres of beautiful Bedfordshire countryside.

Mulberry Homes at Whissendine is an exclusive collection of 51 two, three, four and five-bedroom open market homes, including five homes available on the Government-backed First Homes scheme, situated in the beautiful Rutland countryside.

Across both developments, Mulberry Homes is creating safer and more accommodating environments for animals to call home.

At Ravensden Park, hedgehog hibernaculum are being positioned in undisturbed corners of the site and hedgehog pathways are being installed in garden fencing, to provide hedgehogs with access to roam freely.

Bat boxes and bird boxes for swifts, house martins and sparrows are also being provided, and an existing boundary of a badger sett is being retained and protected.

Where possible, existing hedgerow and trees will be retained and native woodland mix, trees, hedges and shrubs are being planted to encourage biodiversity.

Over in Whissendine, bat bricks are being integrated into select properties and a variety of bird boxes, for species including sparrows, are being installed. To the north of the development is an attenuation pond, which will act as an important resource for birds and other wildlife.

Artificial refugia will be created to provide refuge and foraging opportunities for hedgehogs and herptiles. The refugia will comprise of a large block or stone base and be topped with a stack of felled logs to provide suitable crevices.

The homebuilder is also protecting and retaining the eight-acre site’s existing green spaces. Native grassland, multiple species of hedgerows and 45 trees will be planted, to ensure local flora and fauna have the habitat they need to thrive.
