Energy Saving Division Launched to Tackle Fuel Poverty
Based in Lichfield, Legionella and Fire Safe Services has launched its energy saving/net zero division. How will this help to tackle fuel poverty and offer a unique opportunity for councils to upgrade their housing stock to support their tenants?
Local authorities across the UK are facing a critical challenge when it comes to tackling the fuel poverty crisis and reducing their carbon emissions. Reducing these carbon emissions is essential if the UK is set to reach its net zero targets.
Birmingham City Council Is Aiming To Retrofit 300 Properties
Legionella and Fire Safe Services is working in partnership with Birmingham City Council and is installing MIXERGY Ltd tanks. It follows the council’s declaration of a climate emergency in 2019 when it set an ambitious target to reach net zero by 2030. This is 20 years ahead of the UK Government’s 2050 target.
To support this programme, Birmingham City Council has recently announced plans to retrofit 300 properties in the East Birmingham region to test thermal efficiency approaches, reduce carbon emissions, and provide energy savings to tenants.
Steve Morris, Managing Director of Legionella and Fire Safe Services, explained that the new division is a key part of its MIXERGY range: “We are very proud to have recently launched the Legionella & Fire Safe Energy Saving / Net Zero Division.”
A major part of this division is our MIXERGY cylinder range. Since coming to market, MIXERGY are rapidly making huge inroads into the hot water cylinder market with technology on the forefront.
In 2022, over 260 council properties were installed with MIXERGY tanks, with a further 600 planned for this year.
Steve continued to explain that energy saving is at the focus of what the company does: “From our early installations the energy saving numbers are simply quite incredible.”
On average each small flat is saving around £550 per year through smart technology.
Reducing The Risk Of Legionella Is Crucial To Ensuring Tentant’s Safety
In addition to this, Legionella and Fire Safe Services are currently working in conjunction with Equans UK & Ireland and Fortem Solutions. It is providing a minimal disruption installation, including all carpentry and essential fire-stopping works, and also knowing installing these tanks reduces the risk of Legionella with correct temperatures and built-in bacteria cleansing cycles.
Legionnaires’ disease is a potentially fatal form of pneumonia caused by the inhalation of small droplets of contaminated water containing Legionella. All man-made hot and cold-water systems are likely to provide an environment where Legionella can grow.
The company has revealed that through the new division, it is supporting people during current financial challenges, and enabling them to reduce their energy bills by approximately 37 per cent.
