Harrogate announces £15m plans to build new homes

A major £15m housing development plan in Harrogate has been announced, with plans to build 200 affordable homes.
North Yorkshire housing association, Harrogate Housing Association (HHA), has secured a £15 million loan from the Triodos Bank, supporting the development of 200 new affordable homes in Harrogate.
The fund which is set to support the development of affordable homes will also aim to reduce fuel poverty, claiming that its properties will feature an Energy Performance Certificate rating of B or above.
Steven Brook, HHA’s chief executive, emphasised how the funding is of high importance to the association.
Brook said: “This finance is very important for us as it enables us to go ahead with our plans to significantly increase the number of affordable homes we provide for the people of Harrogate.
With Triodos Bank’s support, we are delighted to be able to create more high-quality housing to support local families.”
Through the project, HHA are able to make its properites more “inclusive for local people”, especially due to rising house prices in the area.
It is stated that the properties will generate renewable energy through air source heat pumps and solar panels, allowing residents to save on energy bills while providing broader environmental benefits.
According to the associations final form reports from 2024, the company had 275 homes in its stock by March 2024. This highlights that HHA were able to increase its portfolio by over 70% in a years time.
